The properties of Blasting Ceramic beads
Blasting Ceramic beads is a zirconium base beads. It is an excellent blasting media for making good finish surface treatment. There are several extinguishing properties of blasting ceramic beads:
- The ceramic beads are of spherical shape. The smooth ceramic microsphere surface doesn’t damage the workpiece during shot peening. Thus it can get the consistency of surface roughness. The spherical shape of ceramic beads can also improve their elasticity. During sandblasting, the beads bounce back from multiple angles. That is very suitable for (metal, or plastic) workpieces with complex structures. At the same time, it has the function of relieving stress and improving the fatigue life of workpieces.
- The specific gravity of ceramic sand is 4.3g/cm3. It is lighter than cast steel shot and stainless steel shot. The grinding force on the metal surface is small. It will get a more accurate shape.
- The hardness of ceramic beads is high. The microhardness is not less than 700HV, and the Rockwell hardness is 60HRC, which is much higher than the glass bead 47HRC. Therefore, it is suitable for sandblasting, shot peening, and strengthening of high-hardness metals such as titanium alloy, aluminum alloy, and superalloy.
- The ceramic beads’ shape remains good after blasting with elastic modulus 330GPa. This feature ensures that the shape of the particles will not change when they hit the surface of the workpiece during shot peening. Thus it can develop quality stability of the substrate.
- The main components of ceramic beads are ZrO2 and SiO2. It does not contain metal components and will not pollute the parts or products to be processed. After sandblasting or shot peening, the workpiece will have a bright sanding effect.
- Ceramic beads have good toughness and are not fragile. Compared with the glass sand, the effect and finish grade is higher, and the service life is increased by about 20-30 times.
- Ceramic beads are recyclable. It can reduce the number of material changes and improve production efficiency. The sandblasting process is not easy to break, is free of dust and metal pollution, clean and environmentally friendly, and free of silicosis hazards, which is conducive to the health of employees. At the same time, it can also improve the service life of the equipment and the working environment.
