Zirconia Toughened alumina(ZTA) fraction
Zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA) fractions are composite ceramic particles made of alumina (Al₂O₃) as a matrix, with a certain amount of zirconium oxide (ZrO₂) added as a toughening phase. Alumina itself has the advantages of high hardness, high strength, high temperature resistance and good chemical stability, but its toughness is relatively low and it is prone to brittle fracture.
Zirconia has a unique phase change toughening mechanism. Adding it to the alumina matrix can significantly improve the toughness and reliability of the material and overcome the brittle disadvantage of alumina.
Zirconia Toughened alumina(ZTA) fraction features:
- Introducing zirconium oxide into the crystal phase of alumina and filling the zirconium oxide crystals into the grain boundaries of alumina through stress is beneficial to reduce the generation of cracks and greatly improve the toughness of alumina.
- High hardness, Rockwell hardness 88-90HRA, microhardness of Vickers HV 1200-1400
- High bulk density. The volume density of ZTA is not less than 4.15g/cm3, and that of ATZ is not less than 5.4g/cm3.
- Excellent wear resistance, especially high temperature wear resistance.
- Low porosity, strong compactness and not easy to break.
- The crystal size is small, about 1-5um.

Application of Zirconia Toughened alumina:
