Zircon sand is a natural sand with excellent refractory properties. The zircon sand is also be called zircon silicate(ZrSiO4). It is an ideal material in foundry, refractory industry.
Features of Zircon sand:
- High refractoriness. Melting point up to 2100-2300℃.
- Thermal resistance and chemical stability at high temperatures.
- Neutral PH with low acidity.
- High cleanness and good round grain shape.
- Good grain size and fineness consistency.
- High ability to bind with binders include both organic and inorganic ones.
- Very low thermal expansion coefficient.
- High thermal conductivity.
- Low wettability.
The advantage of zircon sand in foundry:
- Good chemical stability and low wettability prevent sand sticking on castings. It can avoid metal penetration into the mould.
- Low thermal expansion coefficient make casting precise shape and prevent casting unshaped.
- Get better surface finish of metal/steel casting.
- High Recyclability.
- Low wettability and high chemical stability will get recycled sand easy to clean and get uniform particles.
